Newtons Around The World gallery update.

Well, looky there. The Newtons Around The World gallery has been blessed with a new crop of images, many from first-time contributors. A big whack of the mitts for contributors Sam Gerstein, Claudio Guzman, William Heavenor, Ben McCorkle, Ross Olson, Anthony Velasco and the digitally unstoppable John Charlton. When does John get any work accomplished at his real job, anyway? Who cares? This one shot of his in particular is freaking amazing. New images start on page seven.

It’s all about us.

Don’t worry, it’s nothing major. Just that the about page has been tweaked, preened, and otherwise tidied up a bit. Not much has changed, but I did correct a couple of historical inaccuracies that managed to sneak through the otherwise rigorous proof-reading process we have implemented here at Newted Community central. A jaunty tip of the hat to Mat Korica for pointing out that the Newton was actually abandoned by Apple in 1998, not the previous decade. Hey, I knew that. Really I did.

Newtons Around The World submission guidelines.

Hey, it’s only been a year and a half since we launched the Newtons Around The World project – cut me some slack. At least I managed to get the submission guidelines up on the site before most of your backlights burnt out. At any rate, nobody has any excuse not to submit an image to the gallery now that all of the gory details are living large on the site. Clickety click, kiddies.

Message board topic consolidation.

Since the action in the MessagePad 110 Support and MessagePad 120 Support topics on the message boards has been pretty much zilch since late 2001, I merged them into the MessagePad 130 Support topic. The newly renamed (and hopefully more logical in the grand scheme of things) MessagePad 110/120/130 Support topic is now available for your posting pleasure. I’m still deciding what else to move around, so additional changes will be forthcoming. Your comments and suggestions are always appreciated.

Now with lemony-fresh syndication.

Guess what kids? I finally got around to hooking up the Blogger-powered RSS feed for the Newted News. Now anyone with a half decent news aggregator can slurp down the latest updates about what’s happening in the Newted Community. All you folks with the internet-enabled MessagePads have absolutely no excuse for not installing Eckhart Köppen’s amazing Raissa and grabbing the newsfeed pronto.

And speaking of newsfeeds, you can subscribe to the UNNA news as well.

Extra! Extra! Read all about it!

Did you know that UNNA is now sporting it’s very own news page? It looks like Victor managed to get Movable Type wedged onto the server and is planning on a providing a continuous stream of updates to everyone’s favourite Newton archive. Nice job, Mr Rehorst. Be sure to add this puppy to your bookmarks and stay up to date.

Server outage? What server outage?

After making a couple minor modifications to the web server configuration files, I ended up having to restart the entire Newted Community server this morning. This restart interrupted web, ftp, and email access on and off for approximately an hour. Everything appears to be back to normal, but please let me know if you run into any problems with your account or the site itself. Once again, thank you for your continued patience and support.

Domain name transitioning update.

Just a quick update regarding the big domain name transitioning event mentioned in the previous post. By all accounts, it appears that everything worked. Nothing broke, nothing got lost, and most importantly, all of the pertinent Newted Community domains now reside under one roof over at Dotster. Don’t you love it when things just work?

Possible domain related access issues.

In an attempt to consolidate all of my domain names under one roof, I am in the process of transferring the newted.org and newted.net domains from Register.com to their new home over at Dotster. During this transition period, the Newted Community server and email access may not be available via these domains. If you discover in the next few days that you cannot access your Newted email account or this site, change the domains referenced in your email client or your browser bookmarks to use the newted.com or newted.dyndns.org domain. (Please note that newted.dyndns.org is the primary and permanent domain for the Newted Community. When all else fails, you can count on this one.)
Thanks for your patience during this transition.

New membership requests all caught up.

I’d like to mention that all membership requests made over the past few weeks have finally been processed and the new accounts have been set up. As always, my thanks for your patience while I was getting caught up on things. Welcome to the Newted Community, kids. Please help yourself to a beverage and wander out to the patio.
